Biliary and Gastric Bypass Surgeries
Biliary bypass surgery
reroutes the flow of bile around the tumor. It may relieve jaundice if
the tumor is blocking the common bile duct.
Gastric bypass surgery can be performed if the tumor
blocks the duodenum. A gastric bypass allows food to flow from the stomach
past the blockage.
If blockages in both the bile duct and the duodenum are of concern, the
surgeon can do a combination procedure known as a palliative double bypass.
